Biography

"Troy's Bop Shop" is a multi-tiered company that offers both instruction and performance. THE BOP SHOP offers a program for schools, studios, and organizations giving workshops and creating shows in multiple styles of dance. All residencies/workshops culminate in a performance by all the students who participated. Sometimes they even get a chance to create the dances themselves.

TROY MCLAUGHLIN'S DANCE COLLECTIONS is a company dedicated to combining dance styles, techniques, and cultures while focusing on the percussive elements within them.

BOPSHOP EVENTS is the theatrical wing, concentrating on small musical theater works. Presenting both original and existing works.

TROY MCLAUGHLIN is a native of Richmond, Virginia. He holds a B.F.A. in Jazz Dance from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. There he studied with Judith Jamison, tap great Lavaughn Robinson, and members of the Martha Graham Dance Company, New York City Ballet, and Jo Jo Smith's Dance Factory. Highlights of Troy's career include performing in Disney's The Lion King, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express, and The Siegfried and Roy Show in Las Vegas.  Troy was a featured tap dancer in the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Olympics. He played Richard Pryor's tap dancing conscience in "Pryor Offences". Troy was understudy to Mr. Maurice Hines while dancing in the Radio City Rockette show and traveled the world entertaining the troops for the U.S Dept. of Defense. Troy has taught at universities, public schools, and dance studios in the U.S., Canada, and Australia.  He is currently on the Musical Theatre faculty at Capilano University and has choreographed for musicals, industrial shows, and dance companies worldwide. His choreography credits include the movie GUNLESS with Paul Gross, assisting in the creation of flying sequences for Broadway’s Spiderman, Directing and Choreographing for Norwegian Cruise Line as well as The Vibe Performing Arts Collective, Opus, and Hot House Theatre in Las Vegas.


With students of all levels and ages, Troy strives to help students meet their fullest potential. Most of all, Troy believes dancing should be fun no matter what the level and hopes to share that with you.
